Rebekah Adwoa Awuah

Skill and adaptability are the first two words that come to mind when the name Rebekah Awuah is mentioned. “Can Do and Will Do” are the Watch words that describes her attitude. Rebekah was born in Tema, Ghana to an Akwapim father and mother and nurtured in Nungua a suburb of Accra.

She was educated at Preseco in Nungua (from 1989–2000) followed by Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua (2001–2003) where she Studied Business for three years and proceeded to IPMC (2003–2005), Graphic Road,Accra.

Here, she had an International Diploma in Computer Studies before majoring in Radio, Film and Television under the Theatre Arts programme at the University of Ghana, Legon (2005–2009) where she passed out with a First Class Honours and received the Best Documentary Film Award for 2008/2009 Academic Year. She also has a Diploma in Human Resource Management.

She was editor of NewsFlash, the Church newspaper of the Nungua District Young Peoples’ Guild of the Presbyterian Church.
Rebekah was the Deputy Electoral Commissioner of Volta Hall, University of Ghana 2008/2009 academic year.

Rebekah gained her first experience of journalism at the age of 20, spending three months at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) as an intern, while at University. She later did her National Service at the Radio News Room still in GBC to know more and better her reporting Skills.

Her passion and dream of becoming a news caster since Childhood, made her strife further to study Public Relations, Marketing and Advertising at the Ghana Institute of Journalism after completing a course in Broadcasting Techniques at the Radio and Television Training School in GBC.

Rebekah became a presenter on Uniiq Fm hosting Lunch on Uniiq and Sometimes African Safari, a musical program.

She is saddened when appropriate authorities do not react to stories in the media that could benefit society entirely.
Rebekah Awuah does not believe that one has to attend a journalism school to become a journalist adding that doctors, lawyers, actors and etc practice journalism.

With on the job training and the opportunity of working with intelligent, diligent, efficient and dedicated professionals at GBC, Rebekah now has Extensive knowledge of handling a wide range of broadcast duties including developing story ideas, interviewing, editing, disc Jockeying, news Casting and Production.

Her first experience as a news caster on Television was on the 1st of April,2011 when an All News Channel was born by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation known as GBC24.Rebekah is one of the Pioneers of this Channel out of seventeen professionals put together to start it.

She is now with GBC 24 where she is currently an Assistant Editor, a reporter, and a News Anchor.
Just three months in Television, she was the first to interview V.I.P, a musical group after they won the Artist of the year Award at the 2011 MTN Ghana Music Awards. Others include Nii Lante Vanderpuye, a Presidential Staffer in charge of operations in the Mills’ Administration, Kurt Merki, CEO of Swiss Africa Chamber of Commerce, Africa, Ghana, Mayor of Accra Alfred Okoh Vanderpuije and a host of others.

She is also a regular newsreader and has an interest in Interviewing and Discussion Programmes.

With her background in the Performing Arts, it gives her a unique ability when it comes to reporting in the Arts, Culture and Entertainment.

Rebekah is also an all rounder and versatile when it comes to reporting in other specialized areas like Health, Agriculture, Politics, Economic, Social, Sports etc.

Rebekah is also an actress. She appeared as an actress and a dancer in a lot of student Productions while studying at the University of Ghana, Legon. She also danced for Ofori Amponsah, a Ghanaian musician during one of his 24th December Musical Shows at the National Theatre.

Rebekah loves Sports especially Football, Table Tennis and Volleyball. As the Captain, she led the University of Ghana Ladies Soccer Team to win Gold in the 2008 Ghana University Games (GUSA), held at Tamale. Her love for Sports has taken her across the length and breadth of Ghana as well as other African countries.

She is Spiritual and does not joke with her Christian life. Her Hobbies are listening to music, Research, Travelling, Writing, Learning New things, Acting, Dancing, engaging in Church Activities, reading, listening or watching News. Catch her on Facebook and be friends.
