Chief Imam calls on Muslims to look out for new moon

The Office of the National Chief Imam, says if the first sighting of the new moon falls on Sunday the 5th of June, Monday 6th June, will be the commencement day for this year's fast. 

However, if the new moon is not sighted, then Monday June 6 will be the 30th day of Shaban, and Tuesday the 7th of June 2016, automatically becomes the first day of Ramadan fast. 

A statement signed by the Chief Imam, Sheikh  Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, calls on all muslims in Ghana, to make it a duty of sighting the new moon. 

The statement adds that the cut out time for relaying any information on the sighting, will be at 10:00pm after which no information shall be entertained.

It said this was unanimously agreed by all ten regions, at the just ended Annual National Ramadan Conference at Tamale.
