26th April, 2016 The Daily Graphic says Unemployment is not just a perception but a real problem. It believes in order to deal effectively with the joblessness that is plaguing the nation there must be a multi-stakeholder approach. The paper says the subject must not be politicised, as no political party holds a magic wand to make it go away. The Graphic therefore calls for all hands on deck to properly equip university students with the requisite tools to make them employable when they leave school and also assist unemployed graduates to set up their own business. The Ghanaian Times takes issue with the statement by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development that Ghanaians will have a cholera-free year. The paper says even though the statement is meant to assuage the fears of the populace in the wake of the rains, it is rather negative as it will generate a sense of complacency among the populace. The paper says over the past few years, the country has suffered from serious out-breaks of cholera, and even though some appreciable level of reduction in the number of cases was recorded last year, that is no reason to be complacent. The paper urges the ministry to keep up the effort of sensitising the people to the need to maintain clean and healthy lifestyles, especially the communities which are mostly prone to the disease. The Times suggests that, greater efforts be made not only to sustain the National Sanitation Day programme, but also whip up public interest, to curb increasing public apathy. GBC
