Group cautions 'Let My Vote Count Alliance' group to refrain from consistent rantings against EC A group calling itself Democratic Youth Front, DYF, has expressed dismay at, what they term, acts of disrespect and unconstitutional behaviour by some groups and individuals aimed at interfering with the functions of the Electoral Commission, EC. The group claims that such acts are dangerous to the country's democracy and could lead to unpredictable situations. In a statement signed by it Communications Officer, Maverick Addison, DYF, cautioned the group called "Let My Vote Count Alliance" to refrain from their consistent rantings against the EC which are meant to create fear and panic in the country. It says the Alliance's demands are an offence under section 13 of the electoral Commission Act 451 of 1993 and unconstitutional under Article 46 of chapter 7 of the 1992 constitution. The statement further notes that thought the constitution grants every citizen rights and privilege, no right is absolute. It therefore called on the police and security agencies to enforce the laws against any group or individual who attempts to interfere with the work of the EC. GBC
