Ghana Health Service Raises Alert On Lassa Fever Caused By Rodents

The Ghana Health Service has raised a public health alert on the outbreak of Lassa fever in neighbouring Togo and Burkina Faso. 

It has therefore called on the public to be cautious of the disease. 

It has also directed all districts and regional health directorates to be on the lookout for possible cases of the disease. 

In an interview with Radio Ghana, the Head of Disease Surveillance at the Ghana Health Service, Dr Franklin Asiedu Bekoe said unlike Yellow Fever, Lassa fever has no vaccines but assured the public that the Ministry of Health and its partners are well prepared for any outbreak of Lassa fever in the country.  

Early on, a gathering of scientific experts took place in Accra, on emerging viral diseases and how to prevent it. 

In attendance was the Vice Chancellor of the University of Allied Health Science in Ho, Professor Fred  Binka.
