Auditor General admonishes Defence Ministry, GAF over military uniforms

The Auditor General has admonished the Ministry of Defence and the Ghana Armed Forces to religiously enforce its regulations on the return of Military Uniforms by retired officers and personnel who leave the Forces. 

The admonishing was captured in the Auditor General’s report to Parliament. 

During the 2011 audit of the books of the Armed Forces, the auditors found that some officers and men who left the army during the period under review did not return all their uniforms and other items given to them. 

This came up when the Minister of Defence, Benjamin Kunbuor and some Senior Officers of the Ministry and the Armed Forces appeared before the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament. 

The MPs quizzed the Minister and the Officers on issues ranging from variation of contract sums, lack of standardization policy, insecurity at the Armoury at Tamale, payment without works order and certificate of work done, single source procurement to  purchases from non-VAT registered Companies.
