School Children In Volta Region Demand Peace Ahead Of November Election Hundreds of children from across basic schools in the Ho Municipality have Wednesday embarked on a route march on the principal streets of Ho to press home the need for peace before, during and after this year’s general election. The children in the one hour walk, carried placards some of which read: “No amount of loans from the World Bank can help rebuild Ghana when destroyed through war and violence, Think Children; Think Peace, Ghana’s Peaceful Foundation must be Conserved and Built Upon. Led by a 10-year old Peace Ambassador, Elliot Hillary Dogbey, the school children presented their peace message to the Volta Regional Minister, Helen Ntoso at the Regional Coordinating Council. Key in their 18-point peace message is a call on Ghanaians especially political actors to make conscious efforts to maintain the peace currently enjoyed in the country. The message noted that women, children and the physically challenged are the most vulnerable in war situations hence the effort to protect them. The Regional Minister, Helen Ntoso assured the children of government’s commitment to ensuring peaceful electioneering. She advised them to continually be ambassadors for peace in their homes and the communities. The Regional Operations Commander of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Van Cofie said the security agencies in the region are well prepared to maintain peace, order and tranquility during this year’s electioneering. The peace walk is an initiative of a Ghana based NGO, Open Dove Children’s Foundation aimed at registering the need for peace in election 2016 and beyond. GBC
