WHO not happy with increasing diabetic cases across the world

The WHO says the world is facing an upsurge in diabetes cases. 

It says cases have virtually quadrupled from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014 and that high blood sugar levels have become a major killer-linked to three-point-seven million deaths around the world each year.  Officials say the numbers will continue to increase unless drastic action is taken. 

The WHO says the surge is predominantly down to type 2 -the form closely linked to poor lifestyle. 

The World Body has urged governments, especially in the developing world to come up with measures to regulate the fat and sugar content of foods to ensure there were healthy options available to people. 

It also calls for better urban planning that encourages people to cycle and walk.
