Bongo District hit 79% water coverage


The Bongo District in the Upper East region has hit a target of about 79 percent in the water sector delivery and it is even more poised to hit hundred percent target before the upcoming general elections schedule for November 07.  

To this end, the Community Water and Sanitation Unit is embarking on intensive Small Town Water Systems that will provide water to all households in the district. 

This is to complement the government’s agenda of providing about 2000 boreholes to the district by 2020. 

This was announced by the Paramount Chief of Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Salifu Alemyaarum when the Upper East Regional Minister Albert Abongo and His Deputy, Dr Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem, paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Bongo. 

The Regional Ministers visit forms part of his tour to some paramountcies in the region to pay homage after his appointment into office as the upper east regional minister. 

It was also to solicit for wisdom and support to enable him run the administration of the region smoothly. 

He was accompanied by the Regional Commander, DCOP Simon Afeku, some departmental heads from the regional coordinating council and party executives. 

The Paramount Chief of Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Salifu Alemyaarum, called on government to come out with a policy of entrusting the planting of trees in hands of chiefs he promised some time back when he visited the region. 

According to him, such initiative will enable them employ more of the youth to engage in tree planting to reduce the unemployment rate in the region as well as salvage the challenges of desertification which is fast catching up in northern Ghana.  

Naba Alemyaarum advised the youth to see education as a key to improving their lives in future. 

On peace and security, the paramount chief praised the chiefs and people of Bawku for maintaining absolute peace in the area and expressed disappointment over the recent chieftaincy disturbances in the Bolgatanga municipality which led to the death of one person and injured a number of people. 

He called on the factions involved to use dialogue rather than resorting to violence to settle their difference. 

Naba Alemyaarum stressed the need for the people to ensure peace before, during and after the upcoming general elections.  

The Upper East Regional Minister, Albert Abongo, promised to run an open door administration and urged the good people of the region to support him in raising the image of the region above standard. 

The entourage also paid a curtsey call on the paramount chief of Talensi traditional area, Tong-Ran Nab Kubilsong Nalebgtang and his divisional and sub-divisional chiefs. 

Tong-Ran Nab Nalebgtang, who was the Former NPP MP for Talensi constituency, pleaded with government to consider bringing the proposed college of education to be cited in the region to the Talensi district. 

He expressed gratitude for the upgrading of Tongo clinic to a hospital and asked for equipment and logistics to facilitate quality health delivery to the people. 

He also added his voice to the call on people of Bolgatanga to maintain peace and order.
