President Mahama launches conversion of polytechnics to universities 

President John Mahama has officially launched the conversion of polytechnics to technical Universities at the Takoradi Polytechnic in the Western Region. 

The launch, which brought together a number of stakeholders forms part of the President's four day working visit to the region. 

Addressing the gathering, President Mahama hoped Parliament will pass the bill soon. 

President Mahama said an expert panel will today and April 8 conduct an assessment exercise on Tamale and Cape Coast Polytechnics before they will be converted into technical universities.

He has therefore asked these two institutions to remain calm as he awaits the report on the assessment.

President Mahama also noted that, it is time to lay a solid foundation that will produce the technical, creative and analytical problem-solving human resource base that will move the nation forward. 

He said the demand for the job market is now a practical one.

The Rector of the Takoradi Polytechnic, Rev. John Frank Eshun, said all facilities for the start of the university are ready. 

He said this indicates that Takoradi Polytechnic is ready to embrace its new status as a University. 

Rev. Eshun announced that they have also put in place a number of strategies to ensure that they achieve the aspiration of becoming a leading national force in the delivery of high quality technical and vocational education training.
