Accra high court to rule on David McDermott's extradition case on April 12

The High Court in Accra has fixed next Tuesday to rule on the extradition case of the British fugitive, David McDermott. 

McDermott who has been described as one of Britain's most wanted fugitive was arrested in the country last month. 

He is wanted in the UK for narcotic offences. His lawyer, Victor Adawudu, waived his right to call a witness. 

In a rather long submission, Mr Adawudu argued that narcotic offences are not an extraditable offence crime as the prosecution wants the court to believe. 

He said there is currently no extradition treaty between Ghana and the UK to warrant the extradition of his client. 

Mr Adawudu held that his client could be tried in the country. 

He argued that the courts in the country have jurisdiction to try cases in relation to conspiracy, abatement and narcotic drugs.
