Heavy rainstorm hits Kalaraga community in Tamale Severe rainstorm has hit the Kalaraga community in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern region causing extensive damage to about 25 households and a number of shops. The disaster which occurred last night destroyed property worth thousands of cedis and rendered about 75 families homeless. Radio Ghana`s correspondent reports that, the victims are currently staying with relatives, friends and some living in uncompleted buildings. The Tamale Sub-Metro zonal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization, Mohammed Sahada, visited the affected houses to ascertain the extent of damage. She appealed for urgent support to assist the victims. The Assemblyman for the Kalaraga electoral area, Amadu Yahuza appealed to religious bodies, NGOs and philanthropists to assist the victims. Some of the victims who spoke in an interview could not hold up their tears as they recounted their loses and appealed for urgent support. The Metropolis recorded the heaviest down pour yesterday since the beginning of this year. The heavy rain lasted for about eight hours. GBC
