Istanbul terrorist bombing condemned by UN chief


A terrorist bombing in the Turkish city, Istanbul, in which at least five people reportedly died has been condemned by the UN Secretary-General.

The attack is the latest in recent series of bombings in Turkey in which dozens of people have been killed.

News reports say two Israelis, two Americans and an Iranian died in the blast close to a government building at around 11 in the morning local time on Saturday.

Another three dozen people were injured.

No-one has admitted carrying out the latest attack, although Kurdish militants and the terrorist group ISIL have claimed responsibility for previous bombings.

Condemning the attack, the UN chief Ban Ki-moon said the perpetrators of what he described as "this appalling violence had to be brought to justice."

He extended his "heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims" and to the people and Government of Turkey.
