ECOWAS Media Network Condemns Attacks On Cote d'Ivoire

The ECOWAS Community Development Programme Media Network, ECOWAS CDP, has condemned the recent terrorist attack at a beach resort in Cote d'Ivoire which killed 16 people on Sunday, March 13. 

The network described the rampage shooting of innocent people at the Grand Bassam resort as barbaric and cowardly. 

A statement issued in Accra and jointly signed by the Chairman of the Sub-regional Network, Francis Asamoah Tuffour and Chairperson of the Ghana Chapter, Mrs Hannah Awadzi, described as worrying, atrocities being committed by terrorists and insurgent groups on innocent people and countries. 

It noted that apart from the loss of lives, such attacks also cause damage to infrastructure. 

They also close the doors to tourists, which in turn slow down development in the affected communities and countries. 

The statement said crime has taken a global dimension following the emergence of sophisticated technologies which are now being deployed by insurgents group. 

It said the edifice destroyed in the attack in Cote d'Ivoire cannot be ruled out as a major tourism revenue point for the Ivorian government and managers of the facility who sort to provide jobs for the ordinary people. 

The statement said the CDP Network has therefore called for the collaboration of individuals, groups, religious institutions and all stakeholders to wage a war against terrorism. 

It said the Network is of the view that terrorism and other heinous crimes, which have taken the centre stage in the world has become an affront to human rights violations and require the need to join forces with the security agencies and employ the skills of intelligence gathering to prevent the menace. 

It encouraged Ghanaians to endeavour to report anybody whose mannerisms, actions or activities create suspicion to individuals, communities or members states. 

The statement appealed to shadow interest groups to refrain from influencing or aiding perpetrators with the provision of weapons and monies to influence their thinking, in pursuance for parochial interests.
