JCI Ghana launches peace campaign


A peace campaign dubbed, “Peace Is Possible” has been launched by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ghana.
 
The campaign seeks to mobilize young people across Ghana to create awareness, advocate, take action and commit to an everlasting world peace. 

The project also aims to build a coalition of like-minded stakeholders from all sectors of society that are committed to ensuring peace and tranquility, especially in this year’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
 
The campaign was launched during the Northern Ghana Entertainment Awards held at the Tamale Sports Stadium.
 
Flanked by members of JCI Ghana and Deensi, a Tamale based music trio and winners of the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Traditional Song of the Year, the National President of JCI Ghana, Mr. John Stephen Agbenyo, indicated that in a world filled with violence, terrorism and injustice, to some people the notion of peace has become just a vision as these troubling acts continue to affect innocent individuals in communities around the globe. 

He therefore called on all and sundry, especially the youth to embrace peace and not allow themselves to be used as agents to perpetuate violence in society.
 
Speaking later at the Jubilee Park in Tamale, where JCI members from all JCI chapters across Ghana came together to participate in the Independence Day Parade, the Immediate Past National President of JCI Ghana, Mr. Albert Ankrah, intimated that the ‘Peace is Possible’ campaign would foster an environment where all stakeholders are brought together under a shared collaboration and open dialogue to making peace not just a vision but a possibility.
 
The General Secretary of JCI Ghana, Muhammed Alhassan Yakubu, admonished the youth to avail themselves to opportunities such as the ‘Peace Is Possible Campaign’. 

“This Project offers opportunity for the youth of Ghana to better comprehend the concept of mutual understanding, so as to look beyond the religious, political, and cultural issues that exist between them and to work together to share ideas and principles of peace, gaining the understanding of and compassion for each other’s differing perspectives,” he said. 

He reiterated further that “all people have a desire for world peace in their hearts, and through compassion, they can come together to take action and make the world a more peaceful place.”
 
After partaking in the March Pass at the Jubilee Park, Tamale JCI was adjudged the second best in the category of Non-Governmental Organizations and was presented with a plaque, citation and a certificate to acknowledge the iconic initiative to foster peace and tranquility. 

JCI’s move to ensure a peaceful Ghanaian society was eulogized by the Northern Regional Minister as an impeccable show of active citizenship which should be emulated by all Ghanaians as a measure of sustaining peaceful coexistence.
 
The ‘Peace Is Possible Project’ is worldwide campaign embarked upon by the Junior Chamber International and spearheaded by its 2016 World President, Mr. Paschal Dike, as an initiated to implement projects towards fulfilling Goal Sixteen (16) of the recently launched Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

JCI is of the strong conviction that the worldwide adoption of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development is just one step toward achieving peace, as such it will take the collaborative effort of active citizens everywhere, working to advance these 17 goals, to make peace possible.
 
JCI Ghana is affiliated to the Junior Chamber International (JCI) headquartered in Chesterfield, St. Louis Missouri in the United States of America. 

It is a worldwide community of young active citizens ages 18-40 who share the belief that in order to create positive change, we must take collective action to improve ourselves and the world around us.
