Ghana needs national legislation on parity - Dr. Linda Darkwa

A Senior Research Fellow at the Legon Centre for International Affairs, LECIAD, Dr. Linda Darkwa, says there is the need to as a matter of urgency, develop a national legislation on parity as that is key to accelerate and increase women's participation in Ghana in particular and the sub-region as a whole. 

She said, having a law that requires that certain number of women be part of any establishment will ensure that women are found by every means necessary.

Dr. Darkwa said this at a panel discussion organised by the West Africa Network for Peace Building and LECIAD in Accra to celebrate Women's Day. 

She said attaining parity in the short to medium term, rests with political parties as they can make it happen if they really want to. 

She said, the sign, promulgate and shelve approach to laws they have adopted in the past must stop.
