Political parties ask Ghanaians to put nation first Leaders of some political parties in a sign of national unity participated in the 59th Independence Anniversary. Former Presidents Kufuor and Rawlings with his wife Nana Konadu, also graced the occasion. Presidential candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, Convention People’s Party (CPP) Ivor Green Street, United Front Party (UFP) Akwasi Addae, Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP), Dr. Henry Lartey and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor were also present. Nana Addo welcomed the call by President Mahama for Ghanaians to embrace the occasion. CPP's Ivor Green Street spoke about the need for Ghanaians to celebrate the day.
