Medeama S/C equalises with Kotoko in premier league encounter 


Visiting Medeama S/C fought gallantly to force Asante Kotoko to a 2-2 scoreline in a Ghana Premier League Match Day Three encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, on Sunday.

The visitors, looking sluggish in the initial stages of the match, would be punished in the 21st minute for a defensive blunder.

The goal keeper, Michael Sai in an attempt to clear a back pass from Eric Kwakwa misdirected his kick to Kotoko’s Bennet Ofori, who had the easiest of tasks tapping in the ball.

The goal scorer almost doubled the lead for the Porcupine Warriors five minutes later, and it was from a solo effort, but his final delivery was cleared to safety by the Medeama defence.

The visitors drew parity in the 39th minute courtesy skipper Malik Akowuah from a free-kick. 

The captain unleashed a 30-metre shot to beat goalie Ofori Antwi after Kwabena Boahen was fouled outside the box.

The two combatants, occupying the bottom ranks of the log, came into the second half more determined, however, Medeama again paid for sloppiness at the back as Moses Sarpong’s clearance took a deflection of Kotoko’s Michael Yeboah to register the second goal for the Porcupine Warriors.

Medeama fought hard to equalise in the 73rd minute. 

It was substitute Bismark Oppong who intercepted a pass and unleashed a shot to beat advancing goalie Ofori Antwi.
