Minister calls for more water conservation efforts

The Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, Dr. Kweku Agyeman Manu, says Ghanaians must make the conservation of water a priority. 

He said the current situation of drought in the country should be a wake-up call for people to ensure water bodies are well preserved. 

He said a lot of the water shortage in the country is as a result of dry of water bodies especially at intake points. 

He said this when he briefed Parliament on the water situation in the country. 

The Water Resources Works and Housing Minister Dr. Kweku Agyeman Manu told Parliament said the country’s water is at risk of depletion unless measures are taken to arrest the growing rate of reduction. 

He said farming along river banks, climate change, illegal mining and increasing population growth and urbanization account for water bodies drying up during the dry season. 

He appraised the house on the two worst towns, Winneba in the Central region and Nsawam in the Eastern region

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alex Affenyo-Markin said if drastic measures are not taken, the activities of galamsey operators will pollute the safest water bodies.

The MP for Keta, Richard Quarshigah made a case for communities in his area lacking portable water.
