Management of Metro Mass Transport led by the board chairperson, Leslie Tamakloe today commiserated with community members and families of victims involved in last week’s gory accident at Kintampo that claimed more than 60 lives. 

The board chair accompanied by the Managing Director of the company, Alhassan Ligbi and other senior officials, toured selected households in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region to express their deepest condolence to the bereaved families. 

They also presented some items including cash amount of 500 Ghana Cedis for each accident victim in fulfilment of the compensation package pledged by government. 

Last Wednesday’s accident that occurred on the Kintampo-Tamale highway has been described by many as one of the worst calamities that have ever befallen the country. 

The horrific accident involving a metro mass transport bus and a tomato cargo claimed more than sixty lives with others battling for survival at the Komfo Anokye, Techiman, and Sunyani hospitals after sustaining varied degrees of injury. 

Checks revealed by GBC24 goes to confirm that majority of the victims were natives of the Upper East Region with the Talensi District being the hardest hit. 

Out of the 63 deaths recorded, about 26 are residents of the region. 

It was for this reason that management and board of the Metro Mass Transport Company considered it imperative to tour the region to sympathize with the families of those that died as a result of the accident.  

The trip took them to Shia, Gorigu, Kaari, Winkogo and Yameriga, all in the Talensi District. 

At Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East Constituency, the team visited two households in the Nyokuko and Sokorit communities. 

Speaking to GBC24, the Board Chairman of the Company, Leslie Tamakloe said his outfit, particularly the board was taken aback upon hearing the incident but maintained frantic effort will be made to console the bereaved families and compensate them for the loss. 

According to him, circumstances leading to the cause of the accident has been met with various interpretations but will work with the necessary agencies to unravel the mystery behind it. 

In doing so, management will do all it can identify and develop a database to search for those that have not been found since the incident.

Mr. Tamakloe also disclosed that management has made arrangement to cater for the medical and personal upkeep of those on admission at the various health facilities.

The team is schedule to visit households in Bolgatanga and Bongo. 

So far, three out of nine victims that were admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi have been discharged. 

The condition of the other six have been stabilized and will soon be discharged.
 
Moreover, nine are currently on admission at the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital while five are receiving treatment at the Holy Family hospital at Techiman.
