Hearts begins GPL on a positive note with a lone goal victory over Edubiase 


Accra Hearts of Oak began the 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League (GPL) on a positive note with a lone goal victory over New Edubiase at the Accra Sports Stadium, on Sunday.

After struggling through the pre-season with series of unpleasant results, Heart looked a more formidable and organised side in all departments of the game with supervision from Japanese-American Kenichi Yasuhashi.

However, the victory was without a stiff opposition from New Edubaise, who on several occasions threatened the home team, but failed to capitalise on the opportunities, whilst Hearts could have have taken the lead in the first half through Selassie Adjei and Samudeen Ibrahim.

Hearts however made a much bigger impact in the second half after introducing nimble footed Isaac Mensah for Eric Kumi and Samuel Yeboah for Thomas Abbey.

Mensah became a thorn in the flesh of the visitors as he combined with Ibrahim to mount presure on Edubiase in search of the opener.

In one of such raids, which resulted in a free-kick, which was well executed by Kennedy Appiah who found Robin Gnagne as his header dropped deep in Edubiase area for Yeboah to scramble in the ball whilst sitting on the floor in the 77th minute.

Hearts could have increased the tally but again failed to make use of the chances that came their way as referee Cecil Fletcher brought the game to an end after 90 minutes.
