Ugandan elections underway

People across Uganda have begun voting in presidential election, with incumbent Yoweri Museveni seeking to extend his 30-year rule. 

Seven opposition candidates are taking part in the race widely seen as the tightest in the country's history. 

President Museveni's two main contenders are veteran opposition leader Kizza Besigye and former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.  

Ugandans are also voting in parliamentary and local elections.  

The country's election officials say polls opened at 4 this morning with more than 15 million eligible to cast their ballots.
