Traditional rulers urged to bring development to their people


A traditional ruler says one of the major challenges of the chieftaincy institution in Ghana is the questioning of its relevance by the citizens. 

The Busa Naa Ali Seidu Pelpuo made the observation at his out-dooring as the new Chief of the Busa Paramount Skin at Busa in the Wa Municipality. 

Naa Ali Seidu Pelpuo has therefore challenged his fellow traditional rulers to walk the talk in bringing development to their people as a way of justifying their importance in contemporary scheme running state affairs. 

Radio Ghana’s Emmanual Mensah-Abludo who witnessed the ceremony at the forecourt of Kuntullo-Nayiri at Busa points-out that the event was at its glittering best with many people in colorful smocks wielding walking sticks.

Among those who graced the occasion were the Gulinaa, Naa Seidu Braimah who is also a Member of the Council of State, the MP for Wa Central, Alhaji Rashid Pelpuo and a former MCE for Wa, Yakubu Duogu. 

The 1969-1974 year-group of Bawku Senior High School students who were the contemporaries of Busa Naa Ali Seidu Pelpuo equally made a strong representation at the function. 

In line with the tradition, on reaching the outskirts of Busa, Naa Ali Seidu Pelpuo and his team had to wait for the Head of the Tendangba, Tendana Yahaya Salia Nyuuha to usher him into the town amidst rituals at a number of shrines before finally sitting in state at the forecourt of Kuntullo-Nayiri. 

The Busa Naa stressed the need for unity to enable them propel the socio-economic advancement of the Traditional Area. 

The Chief gave an assurance that he will practice an open-door policy for the larger interest of Busa Paramountcy and entreated the people to reciprocate the gesture. 

He appealed to the Busa, Kperisi, Guli and Sing which are the four royal gates that ascend to the Wa Skin to continue to play their strategic roles in the governance structure of the Wala Traditional Area. 

The MCE for Wa, Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha pointed out that the chieftaincy institution has a lot to offer in nation building and asked chiefs to partner government in improving the lot of the citizenry. 

Diversity in religious unity was showcased as libation and Qur’anic recitation were part and parcel of the ceremony, all working in one direction of seeking good health and successful reign for the new paramount chief. 

Naa Seidu Pelpuo who was enskinned on 30th November 2015 at the Wa-Naa’s Palace succeeds Naa Salia Balugibanoe who died last year. 

Before ascending the Busa Skin, Naa Seidu Pelpuo was the Registrar of the Madina Institute of Technology in Accra and prior to that, he had served in the same capacity at the Islamic University at Adjriganor also in Accra from 2001 to 2008.
