Uganda opposition candidate Kizza Besigye held by police

One of Uganda's main opposition candidates has been detained by Police ahead of Presidential elections on Thursday. 

Kizza Besigye has been arrested on many occasions in the past but this is the first time in  this election campaign. 

Mr Besigye has since lost three disputed elections against the long-time leader Yoweri Musevini.  

Mr Museveni, 71, has been in power for 30 years and is running for a fifth term in office.
