Calm returns to Tafo after curfew

The Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Clement Kegeri says the curfew imposed on Tafo following clashes between the Zongo Youth and the traditional authorities has helped to calm the tensed situation in the town. 

He said if after some days there is the need to relax or intensify the curfew, a decision will be made. 

He said that about 40 people who tried to go on the rampage last night have been picked up by the Police. 

Mr Kegeri said anyone who refuses to follow the REGSEC directive in respect of the curfew will be dealt with accordingly.

Meanwhile, the Zongo Chief of Old Tafo, Alhaji Seidu Chibsah says the incident that happened there was unfortunate. 

He said the clash is the first to take place since they settled in the Old Tafo Township. 

The chief said tempers are too high in the town and called for cool heads to prevail. 

Alhaji Chibsah said the Zongo community is ready to sit with the Tafo traditional authorities to settle the impasse. 

He said Zongo communities are settlers and therefore cannot claim ownership of the parcel of land in question.
