ECG discovers about 45,000 meters illegally connected by residents in Ashanti

The Electricity Company of Ghana in the Ashanti Region says it has captured nearly 45,000 meters which were previously in use in the region but not on its billing records into its system. 

The figure represents about 90 percent of such facilities.

The customers who were using such meters had not been billed for the power consumed for an average of two years thereby causing huge losses to ECG. 

The Communications Manager of the ECG in Ashanti, Erasmus Kyere Baidoo, made this known to Radio Ghana in Kumasi. 

Mr Baidoo mentioned Suame, Danyame and Asante Bekwai districts of ECG where the problem was pronounced. 

He said after capturing such power consumers on its system, the users are now paying regular monthly bills to the ECG. 

Mr Baidoo advised ECG consumers to cut down on the use of second hand electrical appliances as well as ensure that the earthing systems that support their wiring are properly done so as to avoid excessive power consumption.
