CEO of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital calls for national debate to finance healthcare The Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu Teaching hospital, Dr Gilbert Buckle, is calling for a national debate on how to finance healthcare. Dr Buckle believes health care is gradually becoming expensive and if a national debate is not held to address the challenge, patients will be at the receiving end. Speaking to journalists in Accra, Dr Buckle said the cost of health care will continue to go up because medical consumables are very expensive and imported. Dr. Buckle added that it is not always expedient to increase fees and charges at health centres but until an alternative is provided the trend will continue. On the closure of some surgical units at Korle Bu, Dr. Gilbert Buckle said it is true that some deaths may have occurred but it will be unfair to put a total blame on the hospital. The Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia after his tour of the facilities at Korle Bu reiterated that government is on top of health management and the Ministry of Health will address all outstanding health care related challenges for the good of all.
