An Acute water shortage hit Tolon District of Northern Region

An Acute water shortage has hit Tolon District of the Northern Region.

Over thirty thousand inhabitants in eight communities including Nyankpala, Tingoli, Worboggu Kukuo, have resorted to sharing water from dug outs with animals raising fears of disease outbreak. 

A former MP for the area, Alhaji Abdul Razak Umar, who is currently touring the area, drew the attention of Radio Ghana Tamale to the problem and appealed for urgent action to be taken to address the situation. 

The Chief of Nyankpala, Alhaji Yakubu Abdulai has also added his voice to the appeal, saying as a Guinea Worm prone area, the provision of treated water to inhabitants should be taken seriously. 

Meanwhile the Ghana Water Company Ltd says the pipes that supply water to the district have become weak. 

A Public Relations officer of the company, Nii Abbey said, the off taker pipes cannot hold sufficient water as a result of the weakness. 

He explained that, the company will soon replace the weak pipes and restore normal water supply to the area.
