Heavy metal pollution in Tarkwa affects Agricultural production The Associate Executive Director of WACAM, a Civil Society Organisation in mining, Hannah Owusu- Koranteng in an interview with Radio Ghana says food shortage looms in Teberibie in the Western Region due to the dumping of mining residue on farms. Also about 90 percent of 250 water sources within the Wassa West District and Obuasi and it's environs are polluted as a result of irresponsible mining. Due to heavy metal pollution in Tarkwa, eight out of 100 adults are said to be prone to cancer. GBC
