Yeji ferry breaks down as passengers stranded

Hundreds of people who live along the banks of the Volta Lake between Makango and Yeji in the Brong Ahafo Region have been stranded for the past two weeks due to break down of the Yeji ferry Ramp. 

The Yeji ferry is the most dependable means transport for commuters between Yeji and Mankango. 

Due to heavy storms on the Lake, the commuters often rely on the Volta Lake Transport Company to transport their fishes, cattle and other food items to Yeji market for sale. 

Incidentally, the man in charge OF VLTC maintenance and operation, Mr Emmanuel Ofoe was not aware about the breakdown of the Yeji ferry until the Pru District Administration in the Brong Ahafo Region called with a massage to radio Ghana. 

Throwing more light on the issue, an opinion leader at Yeji, Mr Yaya Ibrahim told Radio Ghana that a broken ramp on the ferry has caused economic hardship to the people who often use the Yeji ferry to market their food, fish and other items on each market day. 

Mr Yaya Ibrahim also mentioned pains and agony the sick and the pregnant went through when the ferry broke down for two weeks because they could not have any means to access health at Yeji Health facilities. 

The opinion leader therefore appeal to the VLTC management to sit up because any form of disappointment on the part of their operations may adversely affect the lives of the rural people who live along the large stretch of the Volta Lake. 

A check by Radio Ghana at the VLTC indicated that a team of mechanics has been dispatched to Yeji to see to the problem on the vessel.
