Coalition calls for establishment of Ebola surveillance centres The National Chairman of the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health, Dr Gabriel Benarkuu, has appealed for the establishment of Ebola surveillance centres at strategic border towns in the Brong-Ahafo Region. According to him, the centres ought to be established at areas such as Kofi-Badukrom, Gonokrom, Yaakrom, which will help intensify awareness creation, early detection and control of the deadly disease in case of any possible outbreak. These towns are situated along the Ghana Cote d'lvoire borders in the Dormaa East District. Dr Benarkuu noted that many foreigners enter the country through these routes and because they do not go through thorough medical examination there is a risk of a possible outbreak. He said though there is no outbreak of the disease in neighbouring Cote d'lvoire, precautionary measures ought to be put in place to curtail any possible mishap. Dr Benarkuu advised civil society and faith-based organisations to support in creating awareness especially on the symptoms of the disease. SOURCE: GNA
