OKWASS wins 59th inter-schools debate


Okwapeman Senior High School emerged winner of the Presidential Award for the 59th Independence Day celebration debate with 34 points.           

Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary (POJOSS) and Aburi Secondary Technical School came second and third with 30 and 28 points respectively.

The debate was organized by the Ghana Education Service (GES), for 14 selected senior high schools in the the Eastern Region at Koforidua, on the theme; “That the people, not the government are the cause of sanitation problems facing the country”.

The program was organized to select the best second cycle school for the Presidential Award competition   during the 59th Independence Day Celebration in March.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Senior High School (SHS) Coordinator, Madam Gifty Opoku, said despite the short notice from the National Headquarters, students performed marvelously beyond expectations and commended the students for their hard work.

She added that the program was to help seek ideas from students and also help them to put across what they have been taught.

Madam Opoku advised students to make good use of their debating clubs in their schools to help boost their confidence.
