Ghana receives funding to improve research in humanities

Ghana has received a further boost to research into the humanities with a 1.4 million dollar financial support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

This has come about as a result of the establishment of a measurement, learning and evaluation unit for the College of Humanities at the University of Ghana. 

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ernest Aryeetey, said the unit has come at a time when figures and findings, conflicts each other in the area of the humanities. 

He said the danger of the challenge is how people wrongly interpret others, based on information gathered that is not accurate. 

Professor Aryeetey believes information based on research must go beyond academic purposes to empirical evidence that affect decision making to change the lives of people especially the vulnerable. 

He said this at the inauguration of the Unit in Accra.
