Mrs Agyemang Rawlings to assist children with cerebral palsy


Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyman Rawlings has lunched a foundation to assist children with cerebral palsy, a neurological disorder caused by brain malformation.  

The break the chain foundation aims at mobilizing resouces to provide emotional and fanancial support to affected persons. 

Nana konadu Agyeman Rawlings  in her address said it is high time  perceptions and cultural practices that isolates children with special needs are changed to enable such children live meaningful lives.  

An individual with cerebral palsy is likely to show signs of physical impairment. 

However,  the extent of impairment, vary from one individual to another. It can affect arms, legs, and even the face. 

In Ghana children born with such medical condition are discriminated against and in some cases killed.  

The former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings attributed the lack of acceptance of children with intellectual disabilities to ignorance and bad cultural practices which she said is unfortunate. 

The founder of  break the chain foundation, Adjoa Konadu who shared the painful experience she to go through with her special son said parents with special children are vulnerable and must be supported financially and emotionally. 

The CEO of salt and light ministries Dr.Joyce Ayee called for a national approach to educating children with special needs and integrate them into society.
