EC denies registering new political party

The Electoral Commission (EC) has denied media reports that it has registered a new political party.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Christian Owusu Parry, said the Commission has not registered any political party this year. 

He said any person who applies for registration of a political party have several requirements which must be met under the Political Parties Act 2000 (Act 574).

Mr Owusu Parry said until these requirements have been met and a party has been issued with a final registration certificate, the party seeking registration cannot conduct its activities as a political party.
