Administrator to disburse stool land revenue to MMDA’s, Traditional Authorities and Stool Lands across Ghana


The Administrator of Stool Lands last year collected 51 million, 220 thousand Ghana Cedis to be distributed among the Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Assemblies, traditional authorities and stool lands across the country. 

More than 90 percent of the money has so far been distributed to beneficiaries while the remaining 10 percent is pending as a result of litigation and other legal suits involving the traditional areas concerned. 

The Administrator of Stool Lands, Mrs. Christie Bobobee announced this at the launch of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Stool Lands Secretariat in Kumasi.

The Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands was established 20 years ago to mobilize and disburse revenue from Stool lands in the country. 

The theme for the program is 20 Years of Enhancing Community
Development through Improved Stool Land Revenue Generations.  

Mrs. Bobobee said many development projects undertaken by the MMDAs are financed from the revenue generated by the Administrator of Stool Lands. 

She however, asked the Assemblies and the various stool lands to account for the monies received on behalf of the people. 

They are also asked to actively involve the people in the planning, location and implementation of the projects. 

Mrs. Bobobee said the Administrator has so far opened 80 0ffices in eight out of the 10 regions. 

Upper West and the Volta Regions are yet to have its share. Bank accounts have been opened for all the traditional councils as mandated by law for the monies to be paid into for the sake of accountability. 

The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwabena Mintah Akandor assured the Stool Lands Secretariat of early release of the funds. 

He said the Ministry will continue to monitor the MMDAs to impress upon them to use the monies released to them judiciously. 

Mr. Akandor said the request by the traditional authorities to increase their share of Stool Lands from the current 10 percent to about 30 percent is being considered.
