Health monitoring teams to be dispatched to prisons 

The Chief Executive of Mental Health Authority Dr. Akwasi Osei, says the authority will soon deploy Criminal Justice Assessment Teams to the country's prisons to assess the mental health of inmates and recommend treatment.  

In an interview with Radio Ghana Dr. Kwasi Osei said the development where people with mental challenges are convicted without assessing their mental state has contributed to the situation where some convicts with mental challenges are languishing in prison.  

Dr. Akwasi Osei said the Authority will liaise with the judiciary to find ways of identifying persons with mental health challenges before prosecution.
