Speaker of Parliament appeals for special prayers for Ghana 


The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho has appealed to Christians to hold special prayers for the country to avert any planned terrorist attack. 

His comment comes on the heels of terrorist attacks in some African countries in recent times with the latest occurring in Burkina Faso claiming 28 lives and leaving many others injured. 

Mr. Doe Adjaho was speaking in Ho at a thanksgiving service of the First Sky Group and handing over of 60 church buildings to the Assemblies of God secretariat. 

The First Sky Group, a private business entity in Ghana has held its annual thanksgiving service to enable the management and staff of the company meet to thank God for seeing them through the previous years and as well pray for direction and guidance for the years ahead. 

As part of its annual ritual of contributing to the work of God, the company has built and handed over 60 chapels spread across the Volta and Eastern regions to the Assemblies of God Secretariat. 

It has also donated a Toyata Hilux pick-up to the secretariat to aid evangelism and the preaching of sound Christian doctrines. 

The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho charged Christians not to be materialistic but must allow themselves to be used by God. 

He said it is a great virtue to give back to society what society has given you and therefore urged corporate entities and religious groups to support government by investing more in the needy and vulnerable in society. 

The Speaker also called on Ghanaians to pray and conduct themselves in a more civil manner before, during and after the electioneering so as to sustain the peace being enjoyed in the country. 

The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, the Rev. Dr. Paul Frimpong-Manso appealed to political leaders and their followers to spur the country the politics of insults and acrimony. 

They should rather engage in healthy political discourse that will promote peace and development in the country. 

He advised the media to give news blackouts and should not encourage people to discuss any issue that have the tendency to ignite violence. 

The Rev. Dr. Frimpong-Manso also cautioned pastors and the clergy to desist from giving false prophesies and urged them together with the security services to remain neutral during the electioneering.  

The Chairman of the First Sky Group, Eric Sedinam Kutortse disclosed that the company will from this year focus attention on restoring the hopes of the poor and vulnerable in society through investing in their children education and assisting some of them to setup their own small scale businesses. 

He donated 30 thousand Ghana cedis to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to be used to renovate the Jubilee Park in Ho.
