EC denies NPP’s accusation of flirting with NDC

The EC has denied allegations by the NPP that it is in bed with the ruling NDC. 

The Commission says it is an independent body and will not bow to the dictates of any political party or government. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Acting Director of Public Affairs of the EC, Christian Owusu Parry said the allegations are unfortunate.

He admitted the Chairman of the EC made a mistake in an interview with an Accra based radio station when she said 200,000 people had engaged in double registration in the Ashanti Region.

He however said a correction had subsequently been made to the figure which is 150,000. 

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the EC's refusal to compile a new voters register is a clear signal that the Commission is displaying the propaganda and bandwagon techniques of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to the NPP, it is unfortunate that the EC's chairperson described the call by the NPP for a new voters register as elitist.

Raising issues about the EC's stance at a news conference in Accra, the Campaign Manager of the party, Peter Mac Manu, said a special message to the ruling NDC is that, with or without a new voters register, the NDC's stay in power is coming to an end.

He said the NPP will have difficulties accepting the EC's consultants work as constituting a credible, comprehensive, competent, and inclusive audit of Ghana's biometric voters register since the party provided enough evidence on the need for a new voter's register.

Mr. Manu added that the NPP still maintains its position that No verification, No Vote.
