Achimota forest fire attributed to activities of 'wee' smokers The timely intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service saved the Abelemkpe-37 portion of the Achimota Forest from being completely razed by fire. The fire which started around 11:45am today (January 8, 2016) took personnel of the Fire Service and workers of the Forestry Commission almost an hour to bring under control. It destroyed one and half square hectors of that portion of the forest. The Greater Accra Regional Chairperson of the Forestry Commission, Edith Ansah, attributed the cause of the fire to activities of wee smokers. GBC
