Organised Labour Gives Government One Week Ultimatum To Reduce Taxes On Utilities And Petroleum Products 

Organised Labour has decried the recent spate of increases in utilities, petroleum products, tariff taxes and levies on incomes in the country.

In a statement issued in Accra, it criticises the economic and social hardships on Ghanaians as a result of government policies. 

It also expressed disappointment in the manner in which parliament went about the promulgation of the Energy Sector Levies Act, 2015, (Act 899). 

The statement described the recent increases in tariffs, taxes and levies as reckless and a display of insensitivity on the part of the managers of the economy to the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian, and accordingly condemns it in the strongest terms. 

The statement said organised labour unanimously rejects the increases and demands that government reduces utility tariffs as requested by Labour in its statement of 9th December, 2015.  

It also asks Government to withdraw with immediate effect the Energy sector Levies Act, 2015 (Act 899), which has resulted in astronomical and unjustified increase in prices of petroleum products.  

It gives government up to next Wednesday to meet its demands, or else it would unleash series of nationwide actions.
