Killing of another Syrian Journalist, condemned by UN Boss


The killing of another Syrian journalist just before the New Year, has been condemned by the head of the UN cultural organization, UNESCO.

Naji Jerf, an internet and video journalist who founded the Hentah site, which documents human rights abuses in Syria, was killed in Turkey on December 27.

The Director General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, said journalists had to be treated as civilians in times of war, and called for a full investigation into Mr Jerf's death.

She also denounced the killing late last year of Syrian journalists Zakaria Ibrahim, and Batoul Mokhles al-Warrar, whose deaths were only recently confirmed.
