BNI presents proposal to Parliament


The internal intelligence agency of Ghana, the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has presented a comprehensive proposal to Parliament for a codified conditions of service.

Per the document which has not been made public, is requesting improved service condition and a laid down code of conduct.

Reports say the MP's who are on recess, confirmed receipt of the document which is expected to mature in 21 sitting days when the House reconvenes.


The Bureau of National Investigations BNI, was previously known as the "Special Branch," was legally established under, the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act (Act 526) 1996, have been in existence by Section 10 of that Act.

It is composed of civilian personnel whose role is to establish close surveillance.

Among the duties of the Bureau of National Investigations |BNI are dealing with organised crime and financial crime, and providing intelligence to counter threats to Ghana's national security.

The BNI has power to interrogate and detain people whom they suspect of subversion.

The BNI has undisclosed offices in all the ten regions of Ghana.
