UN chief congratulates new Burkina Faso President The UN Secretary-General has congratulated the new President of Burkina Faso. Roch Marc Christian Kaboré was sworn in during a ceremony on Tuesday in the capital, Ouagadougou. He is the first new leader in Burkina Faso in nearly 30 years following the overthrow of former President Blaise Compaore in a popular uprising in 2014. In a message marking his inauguration, UN chief Ban Ki-moon wished the President every success as he guides his country towards stability, democratic governance, the protection of human rights and economic development. Mr Ban said the new government faces many priorities and formidable challenges, including national reconciliation and security sector reform. He pledged the UN's commitment to supporting the country on its path to peace, democratic governance and equitable development. SOURCE: UN Radio
