National Policy On Human Resources For Health Reviewed

The Ministry of Health says it will continue to implement interventions in furtherance of human resource capacity development.

The move aims at increasing production and retention of trained professionals and equitable distribution of healthcare services.

In view of this, the national policy on human resources for health has been reviewed to respond to current human resource challenges.

The Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services at the Ministry of Health, George Kumi Kyeremeh, said this at a durbar to climax the 10th anniversary celebration of the Community Health Nurses’ Training School at Adansi Fomena in the Ashanti Region.

He said the health sector is still committed to its vision of a healthy population for national development and is leaving no stone unturned to achieve it through broad stakeholder collaboration and strategic partnerships. 

Mr Kyeremeh said the Ministry of Health would not renege on its role in developing innovative policies so as to engender more effectiveness and efficiency in the overall governance machinery of health training institutions.

The Principal of the Fomena Community Health Nurses’ Training School, Mrs Lynda Rockson Mante said the institution has so far trained 2,289 community health nurses since its establishment 10 years ago. She said a major challenge is infrastructural development. 

Mrs Mante said despite the challenges the school will continue to champion excellence in community health nursing through the training of knowledgeable and highly skilled manpower to provide quality-driven, result oriented, customer-centered and efficient health care services.
