Asanteman marks Akwasidae festival

A durbar of chiefs of Asanteman was held at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace to mark the last Akwasidae for the year on the Asante calendar. 

Akwasidae is a very important day celebrated every 40 days by chiefs to acknowledge the role their predecessors played in preserving the lands and their heritage for posterity.
 
It is a special day for chiefs to visit the stool house and poured libation for peaceful and prosperous life for the living. 

The durbar at the Manhyia Palace attracted high profile personalities such as former President Kufuor, Ministers of state both former and current government including the General Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Regional Minister Peter Anarfi. 

Also present to pay homage to the Asantehene were religious leaders such as the Apostle General of the Church of Christ Spiritual Movement Most Reverend Dr. Daniel Markin. 

Apostle Markin commended the Asantehene for his personal role in helping to bring peace and stability in the country. 

He said there is a closure relationship between religion and tradition and therefore asked Christians to recognize and acknowledge the role of traditional authorities such as the Asantehene in national development.
 
The Regional Minister Peter Anarfi Mensah and Asiedu Nketiah who led government delegation used the occasion to appeal to Ghanaians to cherish the peace and stability the country is enjoying and avoid acts that are likely to undermine it as we go into the election year.
