Ghana's passport to be upgraded to meet international standards

Ghana's passport is to be upgraded to match international standards with the incorporation of a chip. 

The green coloured passport currently in use is not accepted by some countries due to the absence of some features.  

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hannah Tetteh, said this in parliament as the House approved the budgetary estimate for her ministry. The ministry has already started the process for this exercise.

Madam Tetteh also explained why the Ministry is requesting companies bidding to print the passport to have a turnover of hundred million dollars on its books.

Parliament approved three hundred point eight Ghana cedis for the activities of the ministry. Also approved was the budget estimate for the Ministry of Communication.  

They will be given 292 million cedis.  

That for the Ministry of Culture and Creative Arts was not approved as the House detected the figures provided did not tally and so the Speaker of Parliament requested the Minister of Finance to reconcile the figures before its approval next week.
