Kenya hosts first ever Ministerial conference of World Trade Organization in Africa Kenya is playing host to the first ever Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization to be held in Africa. The meeting which starts today and ends on Friday is an important one to have been held in the UN agency’s history both for the institution and the continent. The meeting is expected to have a huge impact on Least Developed Countries such as Uganda and the East African Community member states in general. The conference will discuss the future of the Doha Round. The Doha Round is the development agenda which was launched in November 2001 in Doha, Qatar, at the WTO’s 4th ministerial conference. For Africa, the 10th ministerial conference happening on the continent for the first time presents an opportunity for her to direct the outcomes of the WTO negotiations. BBC
