Main airport in Burkina Faso reopened as army takes control

Burkina Faso's interim government says the army has retaken the barracks of the presidential guard that staged a coup earlier this month.

Reports from the capital Ouagadougou say shots and explosions were heard and smoke seen rising from the barracks.

It is not clear if there were any casualties.

The international airport in the city has now reopened.

Coup leader Gilbert Diendere, whose whereabout is still unknown, had called on the guard to surrender "to avoid a bloodbath".

Troops are now searching the neighbourhood for members of the guard who are  in hiding,
