Ga Dangbes urged to stand up and be counted

A Former Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Nii Ayikoi Otoo says it is about time Ga-Dangmes competed fairly to take up positions at all levels, particularly in governance. According to him although he supports calls for a fair representation of Ga-Dangmes in Parliament, it is sad that the people themselves do not come out to compete for such positions.

Nii Ayikoi Otoo said this at the second Ga-Dangme Youth Forum in Accra. It was on the theme, ‘Youth Development and Empowerment, - Essential Tool for the Preservation of the Ga-Dangme Heritage. The forum is aimed at mobilizing members from all Ga-Dangme localities  for development. Nii Ayikoi Otoo said the government in trying to implement the regional balance in Parliament as per the Constitution, must give Ga-Dangmes a push.

Nii Ayikoi Otoo said gone are the days when the Ga-Dangme language was widely spoken in Accra as now the Akan language has now become more predominant and  is being spoken even by the indigenes of the land. 

He described the situation as appalling and entreated the people to rectify the situation.The Interim Management Committee Chairman of the Ga-Dangme Youth Association, Herbert Nii Akai Nettey, said the voices of Ga-Dangmes need to be heard in all spheres of life.

ANettey said it is the aim of the interim executive to create a platform that will promote an agenda to place  Ga-Dangme youth at the helm of their own.
